The new logo mark "Adventure Tale" reimagines the variety of landscapes in California in the form of geometric shapes to represent various nature elements: trees, mountains, and the sun. By using a geometric form language, this creates a flexible and fluid identity system in which a variety of geometric illustrations and icons can be applied across the brand.
Through user interviews and surveys, 8/10 interviewees shared a common thought wishing there were cosmetics that had both beautiful packaging design made from sustainable materials, and is easily refillable.
To fulfill the demographics' need for sustainable cosmetic packaging, I designed a product line of refillable makeup that empowers its consumers to be green by using materials that generate a substantially lower CO2 footprint–materials: sulapac, post-consumer recycled sugarcane PET, recycled glass and aluminum, and algae ink.
The featured product line (left to right) includes a face mist, skin tint, lip tint, concealer, eyebrow pencil, and a versatile shadow palette.
The liquid product containers have a larger mouth opening compared to most current products in the market to enable users to feel their products are easily refillable when visiting a BH Beauty refill station.
The eyebrow pencil was designed with removable heads (where the brow pencil cartridge is stored) so that consumers can keep the main body of the pencil, reducing their product waste.
The palette products (eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, contour, highlighter) packaging is made from hemp paper and recycled aluminum. The aluminum powder trays are each individually replaceable, allowing consumers to have the ability to customize their palettes with shades of their choice.
California State Parks manages 280 separate park units, each of which are a woodland, desert, water, natural reserve or state historic park. To better inform park visitors about the varying park types, a secondary logo system was created to reflect these essences through the use of custom marks and color.
The secondary packaging was a valuable expansion for the brand's visual language in pairing refreshing colors with playful shapes in order to further stand out against competitors in the retail space.
The retail space meets two different needs of consumers. The retail displays stand out against competitors in order to attract consumers to approach the display and learn more about the products while providing an easy way to browse varying scents and product shades.
The end-cap display features a mini display showcasing BH Beauty’s most popular products. In additional to the products, lifestyle imagery accompanies the products to give consumers an idea of the possible makeup styling.
On each shelf of the end-cap display, products are paired by container material types, while a banner informs consumers how the bottles are eco-friendly.

The second need of consumers is to have access to and easily refill their containers upon using up a product. A third need is product suggestions based on a user’s skin type and skin tone via their skin id.
The refill station recognizes users (via the NFC chip technology in a user’s phones) when they approach the station, automatically displaying their membership information.

The larger displays provide users with their product refill information, as well as product suggestions tailored to the user's particular skin type and skin tone.
Users have the ability to add products to their cart, a list, or to input they did not like the product suggestion.
The refill station doors are Interactive Transparent LCD screens (they use IR or PCAP touch technology) which lets users learn how many plastic bottles they prevented from being used, as well as the amount of CO2 emissions prevented from being released into the air.
